How to Make a Website with a Guestbook

In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to make a website with a custom guestbook.  Adding a guestbook where people can comment on your website is extremely easy.  We’ll show you how to do this when creating a website with the IconoSites web builder.

2. You may change the width and height of your guestbook page by modifying the numbers. In this example, the default value was used. Afterwards click the Get the code button. Please see screenshot below.

3. Next copy the code. You’ll be placing this code in your webpage later on. Please see screenshot.

4. Login to your Iconosite free website builder account and create a new page called Guestbook. Please see screenshot below.

5. Name your page as Guestbook like the one you see below. Please see screenshot below.

6. Next click the HTML from your page content editor. Please see screenshot below.

7. Paste the code into the HTML Editor Source then click UPDATE button. Please see screenshot.

8. Next scroll down a little bit from your content editor then set the following settings below. Make sure to mark check else it won’t work. Please see screenshot.

10. Finally check out website and try your guestbook in action. Finish.

    I don´t know why many people stoped using guestbooks, in my opinion they help a lot to understand what people thinks and want, so to build a website that will be used for business or selling something a guestbook is ideal.

      I think a lot of people stopped using them because they became a bit overused and added a lot of clutter to web pages.  And there is something to be said about this.  When you build a website, guestbooks should be used sparingly and on certain web pages only.  They should be critical pages, such as those that display your products or services.  That way, you can obtain the critical feedback you need to make adjustments.  Fortunately you can make changes whenever you want using our free website builder.

    I do agree with Mr. Charles on how guestbooks should be used on a site, it can be used wisely when you build a website of your own business and really want to know a bit more about other´s opinions so you can improve your product or service.  Sometimes people use the guestbook just to say hello.

      Anyone should consider this when creating a website.  However, depending on your particular business or industry, having a guestbook may also not be relevant and may actually lower the quality of the website in general.  So this should also be considered when you make a website.

    I haven´t visted a page with guestbook in a long time, still  they could always come back, here I´ve read some opinions and I´m thinking about it cause is truth, it can be useful, specially when you sell something you make, not any product that is manufactured.  It can really make a website better if you can know exactly what costumers think, I´ll probably add a guestbook to mine.

    I totally agree with Mandy, when you sell something you also produce, of course you wanna know what clients think, in a more specific way than a survey, so you have to create a website that can provide this information, and a guestbook is a good choice.

    i just wanted to ask if I can build a website  and add the guest book and then use the same code in another website or do I need to create anotherone? In bothe sites I use Iconsites :D

      Hi Gregor, you could definitely try to take the code from one Guestbook and place it on another site.  You’d just want to grab the HTML and place it on the web page you want, using our free website creator.

      That’s awesome to hear Kenny, I think you have summarized the merit of adding a Guestbook to a website.  The ease with which your customers can add comments almost encourages them to do so.  This kind of volume, fast feedback can be extremely beneficial for your business — especially if you are a newer company and have new products and/or services.  Using our free website maker, and this tutorial above, it’s just too easy to take advantage of.

    The guestbook is something that has been underestimated over time, I understand it was maybe because some of the entries were of non relevant content, but still there most be a way to filter information and what you get out of it is very valuable, so this can really be and improvement and make a website better, more complete, users feel good when they can give their opinion, and the owner benefits from it.

      That’s a good point.  A guestbook should be moderated to filter out unwanted, irrelevant or profane comments.  Anyone who is using our free website builder to add a guestbook to their website should definitely think about this in advance.  You should only implement this if you are able to set time aside each day - or every other day - to moderate the guestbook.  If you leave it unattended and it fills up with spammy comments and such, it can be more detrimental than beneficial.
